AI exposes the decisions slow delivery used to hide

AI has exposed the ambiguity that slow delivery used to hide. Meetings, reports and long build times once covered unclear decisions.

The gap between a decision and its delivery used to be long. Implementation lagged behind, and the decision shifted on the way. Now delivery is fast. Even a small decision made during delivery carries more weight, because it ships almost at once.

This explains part of why senior and junior experts experience AI differently. Seniors use AI to turn their decisions into deliverables. Juniors use AI as a sparring partner to reach decisions, and they see less of how it reasons.

Both uses are valuable, and both carry a risk. A senior has to check that AI did not change the decision while delivering it. A junior has to check that AI is not steering them in the wrong direction.

Neither problem is clear-cut, which makes both hard to detect. The faster delivery gets, the more each decision has to be checked after it ships.

AI is exposing the unclear decisions that slow delivery used to hide. Meetings, reports and long build times used to cover them.

Fast delivery. Every decision counts.

There used to be a long gap between a decision and its delivery. The work lagged behind, and the decision shifted on the way. Now delivery is fast, and even a small decision ships almost at once.

How they use AI

That's why seniors and juniors use AI so differently. Seniors use it to turn their decisions into delivery. Juniors use it as a sparring partner, to reach decisions.

  • Seniors: decisions into delivery
  • Juniors: a partner to decide

What to check

Both are valuable, and both carry a risk that's easy to miss.

If you're senior, check that AI didn't quietly change your decision while delivering it. If you're junior, check that it isn't steering you the wrong way.

  • Senior: did AI change my decision?
  • Junior: is AI steering me?

The takeaway

The faster delivery gets, the more each decision needs a second look after it ships.
